a sung ritual

In LA BETE, the young talented actress Joke Emmers surrenders to a sung ritual. Immersed in an inner monologue, she wrestles her way through a song: she deconstructs it, tastes it, spits it back out. LA BETE is a rhythmic performance in which voice, text and movement are connected with one another: a ritual that gradually leads to an (anti-)climax.

press quotes

“The solos that he created for the 62-year-old dancer Truus Bronkhorst and the young actress Joke Emmers in SPRING were uncompromising theatre rituals about topical themes that cut through the soul. Jan Martens is the revelation in an otherwise rather resigned dance season.”
- Sander Hiskemuller, Trouw, 04 July 2013
