the Arbeit of dance and the possibility of seeking connection through movement

MAN MADE is a performance for the Dance On Ensemble, a Berlin-based company that consists of five dancers aged over forty-five. Drawing on the skill and knowledge of these experienced dancers, Jan Martens set to work with them to create a new piece.

In an age when populists are gradually gaining the upper hand, when public opinion is becoming particularly polarized, when “fake news” is spreading everywhere and when the Internet has become a platform for anyone and everyone’s opinion, time and space for deep thought, reflection and empathy almost seem to have disappeared. In response to this development, MAN MADE celebrates the Arbeit of dance and the possibility of seeking connection through movement. MAN MADE is a dynamic work with a much-needed touch of naiveness.

DANCE ON is an initiative of DIEHL+RITTER gUG, financed by the German Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media.
